Dear Fellow Reenactors;
We are pleased to announce the 5th Virginia, 28th New York and Fire on the Genesee Committee has been invited to sponsor the 15th Re-enactment by Letchworth State Park this coming year. The date has been set for May 1 to 3, 2015. We will be at the Mt. Morris end of the park, the Highbanks Recreation Area. This offers us two battlefields to work with. Modern camping is close to everything. The park comes with full use of the park facilities (hot showers, flush toilets). Wood, Straw, Hay for horses and water is provided. Letchworth State Park is located in Livingston County, 65 miles south of Rochester, New York.
Again this year we are adding a very special part to our event. That is an Education Day for the local schools on Friday. Last year we had 360 youth and expect even more this year. Anyone who can participate is welcome to setup on Thursday, May 16th afternoon and evening. We are looking forward to all who can help with this special part to our event.
Also we are bring back the community dinner, we will supply the meat, rolls and drink. We would ask if each unit or family could please bring a dish a pass; we all have a great meal together.
The park is the home of Camp Williams from which the 130th New York (later known as 1st New York Dragoons) and 136th New York units mustered out of. The park is dedicated to helping to preserve these units history within the park.
The reenactment will include open-field battles each day, all day living history, and a full slate of civilian activities. The activities will include a work shop on Bonnet making and a dance with City Fiddle Saturday night from 7 PM to 11PM. Please indicate on your Registration Form who will be participating in Ed Day. We will have both authentic and modern camps. There will be a Concession Stand open on the weekend.
This is the Fifteenth year of this event in the park, so we have a unique opportunity to educate the public about the Parks role in history. For this reason we are emphasizing authenticity, re-enactor and public interaction. Your ideas and scenarios are welcome, so we want everyone to come out and enjoy the experience. Come help make this one of the best events in Western New York. It is also asked that you leave your politics at home. If you have any suggestions that may help, please include them with your registration.
Thank you.
